Mediatec adds X-Factor to Danish X-Factor Final

After an exciting 3 month season, 3 finalists were left to perform on the main stage. This year, DR decided not to have the Live Final show at Rådhuspladsen as a free concert as has been the case for the past 2 years. This time, 40 000 spectators bought tickets to Parken to see the live show.

Normally only major artists such as Madonna, AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, etc can fill Parken, but the success of X-Factor ensured tickets were sold out the day before the event. In addition, acts such as Alphabeat, Dúne and Erik Hassle were added to the list to support the amateur X-Factor finalists.

On Saturday the 27th March at 8pm the spotlights were illuminated, showing the stage in the full size. At 40m wide, 22m high and dramatically rising out of the darkness, the stage was an exact of copy of the TV-studio set, only 10 times larger.

Due to a football game in Parken, staging, lighting, video and sound crew only had 2 days to construct the entire setup. Rehearsals the day before took place while crew continued building, adjusting and with forklifts still driving in and out with more equipment and taking empty cases back to the storage area.

A 240m² F30 Spider, 60m² Barco Olite and 310 Barco Mistrip (long version) filled most of the stage. A Barco Olite was used as backdrop and opening door through the performers appeared on stage. 2 Barco Olite’s built in 16/9 format were placed either side of the door. These were used for a live feed so the audience could enjoy close-up shots of the artists.

These pictures were mirrored to give the entire setup an intimate, cozy area while Mistrip left and right of the stage floor brought this area to life, making it feel like it was one big part of the whole light show. At 10m high and 12 m wide, the 2 x 120m² F30 Spiders left and right of the stage bent forward, giving the show a real ‘rock n roll’ touch. Complimenting this, huge screens showed graphics, conveying the impression that the stage was the largest ever seen on Danish TV.

On top of all this, on the morning of show day, Mediatec supplied 2 video trailers, each one equipped with a 56m² video screen. On each side of the stage, with only centimeters left to spare, each truck was transformed into a huge screen on which the audience could enjoy the show and the same pictures as the 2.1 million viewers at home on their sofa. (incidentally, this figure represents 8 out of 10 Danes!)

As the show continued and only 2 finalists remained, tensions began to rise in the arena. Who would win this year? All 40 000 visitors were transfixed until the very last minute when the judges finally revealed that Thomas had won X-Factor 2010. On hearing this, the screams from the audience moved the winner to tears.

Only 10 hours later, the stage had been deconstructed, all the trucks had been loaded up and the football field was ready to breathe again – like nothing had ever happened!
