A new member of the family.

The latest member in Mediatec’s fleet of state of the art OB trailers is called HD12 and is a development of the well proven “Streamline” design of HD10 & HD11. This time with an even larger production area, giving room for more operators and a larger production setup. HD12 arrived before schedule from our systems integrator “Broadcast Solution” in Germany and after a couple of days preparation in the Mediatec garage it went right in to a hectic production period doing the hockey play offs in Sweden. Unit Manager Anders Wikström says “-We have had a smooth start up process with almost no problems at all. The truck has performed exactly as planned with all the additional benefits we wanted, it has great production capacity with a minimum of setup time giving more time to focus on the client.”

Out in the cold?

This weekend the FIS Cross-Country skiing World Cup was held in Demino outside the Russian town of Rybinsk. Mediatec supplied the equipment and trucks for the host broadcast of the event.

During the preparations the crew faced challenging weather conditions with temperatures hitting -30 degrees.

But we came well prepared and managed to set everything up in good time for the transmission. The first day of competition mother nature worked in our favor and we were rewarded with a beautiful and sunny day. With a mainly Nordic crew, we could enjoy wonderful pictures of a Nordic trio on the podium in the ladies mass start.

The local organizers of course played an important role in making this event successful and we were greeted with kind assistance from the local crew who helped with everything from getting through bureaucracy to translation and cable pulling, thank you.

500 million viewers?

On Sunday 6th November Mediatec ensured that an estimated 500 million viewers could catch the excitement of the Miss World 2011 crowning at Earls Court in London. Their large production unit, Mediatec HD2, was utilized by a professional production crew of around 20 people. It was on-site for a full week of rehearsals before the actual show on Sunday. Cranes, Steadicam, links and robotic cameras were all used in the production, which was transmitted live to 150 countries around the globe.

David Morgan, head of TV production for Miss World says: “For a live transmission like this we were anxious to get a technical provider that could guarantee top quality equipment and crew and still stay within budget. We made some changes in the setup during the rehearsal period but Mediatec delivered on the mark every time. That’s what counts.”

According to Allan Parsons, Mediatec project manager, HD2 could easily accommodate all the different wishes from Production.

To find out more about this production or what Mediatec can do for your production please give Mats Berggren a call on +46 10 4540316 or write a line to mats.berggren@mediatecgroup.com. For UK productions you can reach Allan at allan.parsons@mediatecgroup.com .

Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12

The Volvo Ocean Race is an exceptional test of sailing prowess and human endeavour which has been built on the spirit of great seafarers – fearless men who sailed the worlds’ oceans aboard square rigged clipper ships more than a centuary ago.

During the nine months of the Volvo Ocean Race, starting 5th November in Alicante, Spain, and concludes in Galway, Ireland during early July 2012, the teams will sail over 39,000 nautical miles of the world’s most treacherous seas via Cape Town, Abu Dhabi, Sanya, Auckland, around Cape Horn to Itajai, Miami, Lisbon and Lorient.

The race is the ultimate mix of world class sporting competition and on the edge adventure, a unique blend of on-shore glamour and off-shore drama and endurance.

It is undeniably the world’s premier global race and one of the most demanding team sporting events in the world.

Mediatec is continuing its proud heritage of supplying this type of event with modern, reliable and flexible technical solutions. For the 5th consecutive Volvo Ocean Race, Mediatec is the Official Supplier worldwide.

For the 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race Mediatec will be supplying: Project Management; Video; Light; Sound; and IT Solutions for the Volvo Pavilion, which is a collaboration between Volvo Car Corporation and Volvo Group. The Pavilion includes over 100 screens, many of these interactive for public viewing and enjoyment, and a complete conference environment with an advanced IT system to handle the high demand of flow of information.

Mediatec will also be supplying technical equipment for the Volvo Ocean Race 3D Cinema. In an attempt to give the fans and visitors a more complete experience, Volvo Ocean Race together with Mediatec are creating a professional 3D cinema which will be open daily and free to all visitors.

In addition to the Volvo Pavilion and 3D Cinema, Mediatec will also be supplying equipment to other parts of the race village. One example is the Leader Board where visitors can view in “real time”, updated information both from the race and other events.
